How Schema Is Evolving - August Edition

Modified on Thu, 13 Aug at 10:06 AM

Organizations no longer need a platform that simply generates valid markup. They need one that helps AI systems understand, trust, and continuously interpret their business as it evolves. That is what has guided the latest generation of Schema Manager. The enhancements below are grouped by the outcome they serve, not by release date.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Building Better Knowledge

From isolated pages to a connected model.  Early structured data described one page at a time. Schema Manager now models the relationships between your organization, brands, products, services, locations, and offers, so AI systems understand how your business fits together rather than reading disconnected pages. This connected view is one of the highest-leverage things a business can do for its visibility in AI-generated answers: it is the difference between a system seeing scattered facts and seeing a coherent organization.

A top-down business model, not page-by-page tags.  Rather than describing pages one at a time, Schema Manager builds your entity registry from the top down, establishing a clear hierarchy before any detail is filled in, so every page, product, and location refers back to one consistent version of your business:

Organization: your company entity

Brand: your brand identity

Product: what you offer

Offer: how it is sold

Price: the specifics that change most often

One identity, referenced everywhere.  Each entity is assigned a permanent reference, an @id. By anchoring every page back to a single point, a service page, a product page, or an offer can point to that same authoritative record instead of re-describing the business. Your whole site ends up speaking with one consistent, verifiable voice, which is exactly what lets an AI system resolve that these pages all describe the same organization.

Maintaining Trusted Knowledge

Foundation first, value sooner.  Website, Organization, WebPage, and Breadcrumb information deploy immediately, so AI systems can establish an understanding of your organization from day one, while richer entity types layer on afterward. Value starts flowing early instead of waiting on a long build-out.

Knowledge that watches itself.  Information is only trustworthy if it stays true. Schema Manager now watches your entity layer for drift: when a description, price, or relationship quietly diverges from your source of truth, the platform detects the inconsistency and flags it before it spreads across your site and into the systems reading it. Accuracy stops being a periodic audit and becomes a continuous state.

Fresh from the source.  The most volatile information, prices, availability, and product detail, changes faster than any manual process can track. Schema Manager can now pull these directly from your product feeds and source systems on a configurable schedule, so your entity layer reflects reality within hours rather than weeks. Paired with IndexNow, which notifies search and AI systems the moment something changes, updates reach the systems that matter in near real-time.

Governed, and delivered where AI reliably sees it.  Clear rules of engagement protect accuracy: fields such as addresses can update automatically, while pricing and policy content require approval first. And because delivery method is now a visibility decision, server-side and CDN-edge delivery render your information before the page loads, so fast-moving AI systems see it every time. Client-side remains a fast, low-lift start, best treated as a stepping stone.

Preparing for the future with Agentic Discovery

The same entity foundation AI systems understand today is what tomorrow's AI agents will act on. Agents don't browse like people do: they find, read, and decide in one pass, and need information that is structured, retrievable, and verifiable. Three things are getting our clients ready.

A unified AI Readiness audit. A single audit that evaluates your site the way an agent moves through it: whether it can find, understand, retrieve, trust, choose, and act on your content. Each of these six pillars is scored against live fetched evidence and rolled into one readiness score, reading each page across all three channels an agent sees at once, the HTML, the accessibility tree, and the rendered view. Available to clients as a one-time complimentary readiness check.

NLWeb. Turns your site into something an agent can converse with, drawing accurate answers from your own information rather than scraping and guessing. Live on client sites today.

ARD (Agentic Resource Discovery). An emerging open standard for how agents discover and verify what a business offers, by reading a structured file you publish under your own domain: your entity foundation, extended to agents.

Together, these turn the knowledge you've built into something agents can read, trust, and act on.
